Dear friends,

The past fiscal year was bookended by two significant leadership transitions at CommonSpirit Health. In August, we welcomed our new CEO Wright Lassiter III and in June we bid happy retirement to our esteemed Executive Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer Fred Najjar.

Amidst these new beginnings and changes, the CommonSpirit Health 2023 Philanthropy Annual Report is a reflective pause — a chance to behold all that we accomplished together.

With 58,700 donors walking by our side, every single day across our ministry, at more than 2,000 care sites in 20 states stretching across the entire country, 150,000+ doctors, nurses, caregivers and staff worked together to pursue our vision of “a healthier future for all.

Investments from philanthropic partners like you provide critical resources that enable us to go further, faster.

This report is a token of our deep gratitude and a celebration of the impact that your bountiful generosity makes. Across our ministry’s 80 community-based foundations, and nationally through CommonSpirit Health Foundation, our donors contributed more than $260 million to further our mission of “improving the health of the people we serve.”

Your impact is more than the sum of the dollars raised.

Behind every donation is a story — a heartfelt and thoughtful decision to give back and pay forward. Each of these acts of humankindness ripples outward — improving the lives of everyone it touches. Throughout this report you will find stories that resonate and amplify your understanding of the true impact of your generosity.

Together, with each ripple, we are writing a new chapter in the story of humankindness as we strive to make a more compassionate, more just and healthier world.

Thank you for walking with us through the changing seasons, embracing each new phase with unwavering support and dedication.

With deepest gratitude,

Nancy Bussani
Executive Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer
President, CommonSpirit Health Foundation

Donors from every corner of the map stood up and joined together to fuel innovation, unite their communities and serve the vulnerable. Together, we achieve what none of us could accomplish individually.

$185.5 million

Philanthropic transfers to supported entities reflect collaboration, as funds are transferred only after fulfilling donor intent. These transfers also demonstrate strong alignment between local care facility leadership and local fundraising entity leadership.

Return on investment
$3.95

Philanthropy is a potent investment strategy employed by our board directors and health care leaders to expand the funding available for our hospitals, patients and communities. As a not-for-profit organization, your support creates a profound impact on those we serve.
